Location: Endless Mountains region of NE Pennsylvania, Susquehanna County, south of Vestal, NY. PA route 267 is the major road in the township, running north to south. Water Quality
Water Quality Measurements for the Choconut Creek and other area streams is available from the Susquehanna River Basin Commission. The installation of a monitoring station on the Choconut Creek, near Vestal Center allows local residents to check the water quality and compare it with other streams. Choconut Senior Housing
Construction is nearing completion on the new Sr. Housing in Choconut! First Ward Action Council, Inc. expects to occupy in 2011 and are maintaining a list of those expressing interest. The actual tenant selection will occur in the fall. Rents are expected to range from $165 - $563 including utilities. There will be 20 one bedroom and 4 two's. Susquehanna County Transportation has a Shared Ride Program. Call (570)278-6140 or (866) 278-9332 (toll free) a day in advance to schedule a ride to get groceries, visit a doctor, ... The service has discounted fares for senior, or persons with disabilities, and is available to the general public at the standard fare.

Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Company & Emergency Rescue Squad has completed an addition to the Choconut Township Building. The addition added two bays to house another emergency vehicle. Click on the squad name above to read about becoming a member or their fundraising events.

Schools: Choconut Township residents attend schools in the Montrose Area School District. Contact Mr. Michael Ognosky, superintendent of schools, for new student information. For information about bus schedules, contact the Transportation Office, at 278-6227.
Open Records:
To make a request under the Open Records Law, contact Linda Gittoes at 570-553-2780 choconutpa@stny.rr.com. A form is available under documents. If the township denies a record request, or a portion of a record, the requester can file an appeal with the State Office of Open Records. The Choconut Open Records Policy can be view by clicking on Resolution 01-05-2009.
The appeal must be submitted
to the Office of Open Records within 15 business days of the mailing date of the
Agency’s response. Appeals should be sent to the Office of Open Records,
Planning Commission - members, what we are working on. The May 2010 meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, the 26th.

PERMITS - Choconut Township has adopted the Uniform Construction Code, which is administered by the Code enforcement office of the Council of Governments (COG) office in New Milford. Habitable dwelling permits are handled through the Cog office. Call the COG office at 570-465-2633, or email Cog@nep.net. for a habitable dwelling permit.
For garages and miscellaneous buildings that are not habitable, assessment permits are issued by the township supervisors, and can be obtained by calling 553-2780 to obtain an application form.
