CCWA Meeting Minutes

January 17, 2002

Attendance: Mike Villnella, Rudy Mattes, William Dovin, William Nash, Karen Salvage, Shane Palbet?, Axie Roma, Jaimie Ruane, Arnie Showers, Barb Showers, Travis Long, Jack Davis

Jack Davis called meeting to order at 7:30, and introduced Jon Klotz of LDG who presented preliminary watershed assessment results, with GIS mapping and pictures.  Problem areas upstream of restoration area include numerous unstable banks and gravel bars.  The stream is channelized in several places which contributes to formation of the gravel bars. Lack of overhead vegetation was noted in most areas.  These areas could jeopardize the downstream restoration area north of Stanley Lake Road.

The assessment includes water testing at three sites.  The association will be buying test equipment so that we can continue testing after the assessment.

Due to the problems found in the preliminary assessment, a motion was made to submit a growing greener grant request to design a restoration of the creek south of Stanley Lake road.  The motion passed unanimously.  Property owners in this area must be contacted to gain support for the grant request and Jack asked for assistance.

Jack discussed the need for riparian buffers along the creek and encouraged attendance at Riparian Buffers & Streambank Protection Workshop on March 23, 2002 at Keystone College.  Call 570-836-2589 x3 for more information.

Dues for 2002 are now due and can be sent to Linda Gittoes RR1 Box 1556, Friendsville Pa 18818
